In 1991 the Brisbane College of Advanced Education merged with the Queensland University of Technology, establishing the QUT Faculty of Education and marking a major step forward for teacher education in Queensland.

Today, with around 5000 students and 200 staff, the QUT Faculty of Education is one of Australia’s largest providers of undergraduate and postgraduate education for teachers and recognised as one of the top three Australian Faculties of Education in research.  Throughout the last 20 years, our staff and students have achieved outstanding results and contributed to the growth of our Faculty.

The Faculty‘s expansion in both research and teaching and learning is continuing. In addition to our strong campus based programs, we have externally recognised examples of innovative partnerships demonstrating exciting models of teacher education. These include the Teacher Education Done Differently program at Caboolture; the QUTeach@Redcliffe program;   the Exceptional Teachers for Disadvantaged Schools program; and commencing in semester 2,  a Teacher Education Centre of Excellence in partnership with the Kelvin Grove State College.

Faculty staff work in the enhancement of teaching and research right across the world – with European Union funded programs, in Malaysia, China, Bangladesh and Samoa, to name just a few. In addition, from semester 1 in 2012 the Faculty will expand by offering students the opportunity to study in early childhood at Caboolture campus for the first time. These students will join the already highly successful primary program students at this campus.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary and the achievements of our staff and students, I am inviting you to join us at the 20 Year Anniversary celebration events in June. Full details of the events are available on our 20th Year Anniversary Program web page.

I hope you can join us and I look forward to seeing you in June.

Executive Dean, Faculty of Education
