Assistant Dean (Research)
Professor Carmel Diezmann is the Assistant Dean Research in the Faculty of Education and responsible for the leadership and management of the Centre for Learning Innovation. She is highly committed to building research capacity in staff and postgraduate students, and fostering excellence in educational research.
Professor Diezmann is particularly interested in the cognition and creativity of individuals and groups in a broad range of educational contexts. Her research includes the learning and achievement of academics, teachers, and higher degree students; the role of information graphics in mathematics instruction, investigations and assessment; curriculum innovation and assessment in mathematics and science education; and the education of gifted individuals. Professor Diezmann supervises postgraduate research students in these areas and publishes widely (http://eprints.qut.edu.au/view/person/Diezmann,_Carmel.html). In tandem with her research, Professor Diezmann is highly engaged in professional development programs in schools and in the production of quality teaching resources. She has recently published a DVD titled “Jump into Number” which provides examples of how teachers can engage young students from Prep to Year 3 in learning about Number using various teaching approaches and mathematics resources.
Professor Diezmann has received numerous educational awards including two QUT Awards for Outstanding Academic Contribution (1999, Professional Leadership; 2003, Research and Scholarship).
