Faculty of Education Outstanding Thesis Awards
The annual Outstanding Thesis Award is designed to recognise outstanding doctoral research which makes a significant contribution to educational knowledge. To be eligible for the award, students must have graduated between 1 January and 31 December of the current year. The closing date for applications is 31 January of the following year.
The first prize of $750 and a certificate goes to the winner. A runner up prize of $500 may also be awarded.
Supervisors nominate their students for the award via the Nomination Form; they provide a statement of support and ensure that nominees provide the following material:
- Copy of thesis
- One page summary and statement of impact
- Full examiners’ reports
- Copy of publications derived from thesis
The winner is selected by a committee of three senior researchers in the Faculty of Education based on the following criteria:
- Examiners’ reports
- Confirmation and final oral reports
- Timely completion of course milestones
- Statement of support from supervisor
- Student’s one-page summary of research undertaken and its scholarly impact
- Committee’s evaluation of the thesis
- Quality and quantity of publications generated from the thesis
The Faculty of Education will use the Outstanding Thesis Award process to identify nominees for the Australian Association for Research in Education Award for Doctoral Research.
