ProfileDr Amanda Mergler is a Lecturer in the School of Learning and Professional Studies at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. As a registered psychologist, Amanda teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students in human development and educational psychology. Prior to commencing employment with QUT, Amanda worked for the Federal Government`s Child Support Agency. During this time Amanda investigated the relevance of staff training programs and made recommendations for change to Senior Management. She also worked extensively with parents managing their child support payments, and liased with a range of government and non-government organisations. Prior to this role, Amanda worked as a Youth Worker for the Adolescents Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service (ADAWS). This involved engaging with young people to assess their level of drug use, assist with the execution of group sessions involving activities designed to increase young people`s self-esteem and personal awareness, and assisting young people in accessing relevant services. Since completing her doctorate titled Personal Responsibility: The Creation, Implementation and Evaluation of a School-Based Program, in December 2006, Amanda has worked with schools in implementing the Personal Responsibility Program created during her doctorate. Amanda has also implemented workshops in high schools aimed at developing the personal responsibility and self-awareness of adolescents. Amanda is currently involved in a research project investigating the part-time working careers of full-time high school and university students.

ConsultanciesQueensland Rail Reviewed their education programs for school children and wrote report of recommendations for making changes to these programs. St Ritas Ran day-long workshop with Year 10 girls focusing on issues of personal responsibility, emotional intelligence, choices and consequences.
